It’s Valerie Khoo here. Thanks for your interest in the Kickstart Mentoring Program. If you’re serious about kickstarting a career in feature writing, I want to help you make it happen. To listen to a personal message from your mentor, Valerie Khoo, just click on the play button. (The message is about 3 minutes).
The mentoring program is specifically for people who have already completed the course I teach at the Sydney Writers' Centre - Feature Writing for Magazines and Newspapers.
If you undertake the mentoring program you will receive one-on-one mentoring from me. The program is a wonderful opportunity for you to have unlimited access to me via your very own personal web access page. It will look a little like the page you’re reading now. Think of it as a direct line of communication between you and me.
Many people have asked me about one-on-one mentoring and until recently I simply haven’t been able to find an efficient and affordable way to fit this into my schedule. And I have been so busy with my writing and consulting work that I haven’t been able to fit in any mentoring during regular business hours anyway.
However, we’ve designed a way so that you can receive one-one-one mentoring with me – via the web.
Direct line of communication
On your web access page, you’ll be able to ask questions or upload your writing for me to provide feedback. And don’t worry, this is a password protected website so the only people who will be able to see this page are you, me and the admin staff of the Sydney Writers’ Centre if necessary.
To respond to you, I’ll either provide you with a written answer which will also be uploaded on your web page or I’ll upload an audio file just like the one on this page (just click the “play” button). Basically, I’ll be using whichever method is most efficient for me at the time to be able to get a response to you. And thanks to the wonders of technology, I’ll be able to respond to you even when I’m travelling or not in the office.
I’m really excited about being able to share my expertise and provide this one-on-one mentoring to you.
There are a limited number of places available because there are only so many hours in a week that I can do this. I’ll be closing off the mentoring program when I feel that I’m at capacity and at a level where I can give everyone personalised attention.
