Creative writing Stage 2
5-week course (evening classes)
Creative Writing Stage 2 is ideal if you want further guidance on your creative writing journey. It’s perfect for students who have completed Creative Writing Stage 1 or Writing Books for Children and who want to explore the craft further, or for those who are past the ‘beginners’ stage. By the end of the course, you should have a completed short story in first draft. If you’re already working on a short story, you can use the course to improve it with guidance and feedback.
Stage 2 is a very practical course with opportunities to workshop your writing in class. In this course, the focus is on “doing” so that you can keep your creative writing momentum going and actually produce a finished story.
For the first three weeks, your presenter will focus on a specific area of creative writing, explore it further and lead the class in exercises that will help you hone your writing skills.
- Week 1: Character
- Week 2: Voice
- Week 3: Plot.
Weeks 4 and 5 will be devoted to workshopping and revising.
Creative Writing Stage 2 is presented by Judith Ridge, who is a highly regarded creative writing teacher and has particular expertise in workshopping and facilitating practical sessions. Judith has worked with the Children's Book Council, as an editor at ABC Children's Books and the NSW School Magazine and freelanced as an editor for Random House. Judith taught "Writing for Children" for two years at the University of Sydney MA in Creative Writing.
