Creative Writing
For
Years 11 and 12 Once a year, the Sydney Writers’ Centre opens its doors to high school students.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to attend Australia’s leading centre for
writing training. It’s an exclusive chance - for a small group of 16 students - to learn
creative writing from presenters and editors who live and breathe the publishing
industry every day.
Creative Writing for Years 11 and 12 is based on the Sydney Writers’ Centre’s
popular writing course, which has been featured in The Sydney Morning Herald. It
will provide students who are interested in creative writing with the tools and
motivation to hone their writing skills and explore their talents.
It’s a wonderful enrichment program set in a nurturing and supportive environment. In
previous years, students have travelled from other states to attend this course, which
is only held once a year. This creative writing course will teach you how to:
- kick-start the creative writing process
- tap into your imagination
- draw from everyday experiences and memories
- examine different types of creative writing
- give structure to your writing
- use characters and dialogue
By the end of the course you'll improve your creative writing skills and have the confidence to pursue your own writing projects.
This course is presented by Judith Ridge. Judith has worked with the Children's Book Council, as an editor at ABC Children's Books and the NSW School Magazine and freelances as an editor for Random House. For the past two years, Judith has taught "Writing for Children" at the University of Sydney MA in Creative Writing.
