Thursday, May 19, 2011

Sydney Writers' Centre interviews Singaporean author Shamini Flint at the Sydney Writers' Festival (May 2011). Shamini is now well known for her crime writing books, the Inspector Singh series. The latest is Inspector Singh Investigates: A Deadly Cambodian Crime Spree.

However, she began her writing career with a series of picture travel books, with a character called Sasha about a girl called Sasha visiting places in Asia. Shamini says: "My main aim in writing these books was so that my own daughter (Sasha!) would feel comfortable in her own environment and feel a sense of belonging in her own backyard."

These days, Shamini focuses on crime: Inspector Singh Investigates - A Most Peculiar Malaysian Murder; Inspector Singh Investigates: A Bali Conspiracy Most Foul; Inspector Singh Investigates: The Singapore School of Villainy; and Inspector Singh Investigates: A Deadly Cambodian Crime Spree.
