Dear Fellow Writer,
In this issue:- Do waiters really do that?
- Learn from wherever you are - Online Creative Writing
- Writing for the Web - do you know the rules?
- Win a copy of Kathy Reichs’ novel Devil Bones
- Latest podcast with fantasy writer Fiona McIntosh
Well, hasn’t there been a media storm over the allegations that a family were served some pretty horrible stuff in their ice-cream at the Coogee Bay Hotel recently?
All I can say is that I’m glad I haven’t been accepting free ice-cream there lately!
But
maybe that’s just one incident that’s made it into the news. One cranky
waiter - Steve Dublanica - blogged about his experiences on
www.WaiterRant.net which he started in 2004. In 2006 he won the “Best
Writing in a Weblog” Bloggie Award and now … wait for it … his blog has
become a best-selling book, Waiter Rant: Thanks for the Tip - Confessions of a Cynical Waiter.
Forget the Coogee Bay Hotel. This is an eye-opening book for anyone who dines out. For more, check out our blog post.
Did you get the Sun-Herald
on the weekend? If you did, you would have read Cindy Bingley-Pullin's
story on page 14. Cindy literally just finished the course Feature
Writing for Magazines and Newspapers with Judy Skatssoon last month -
and she’s already been published! Great work Cindy.
And remember, if you have completed the Feature Writing course and want to build on your new skills, you’ll love:

Literary rejections

Now here’s a blog which will help aspiring writers. It’s called Literary Rejections on Display.
It’s a great collection of rejections from a variety of editors and publishers. If you’ve been to one of our courses, you’ve probably heard me or one of the presenters say that rejections are not personal. There are so many reasons for rejections.
This blog takes you on a voyeuristic view into how and why people get rejected. Some of it is educational and other rejections are downright funny. I’m sure you’ll find some gems that may help you in your writing.
One of the questions posed on the blog is: "Isn't it part of
the writer's job to learn from - rather than reject - rejections?"
There are also interviews with successful authors, like Daniel Clay who wrote Broken. He talks frankly about his many rejections before he finally found success.
So keep sending out those manuscripts!

What does author Fiona McIntosh say about writing?
You can find out by
listening to our latest podcast interview with her. In this podcast,
Fiona talks about how she doesn't plan or plot when writing her stories.Fiona is a mistress of trilogies. She has written fantasy international-bestsellers that leave her readers gasping for more.
