Recent student feedback
“I
just wanted to say thank you for providing such honest, insightful
feedback and for being so generous with your time. I would not have
reached this point without your support. The course itself is
outstanding, but the ongoing support and guidance you provide is that
critical link between theory and practice, so thank you.”
David
Kennedy who attended the How to get your book published seminar and the
Online Feature Writing for Books and Magazines course.
"The
seminar had a real structure which followed the logical steps from
first idea to finished media release. The media release examples and
the press they precipitated were very hands on. I came away with a real
plan of how to prepare for different types of media and the timescales
involved."
Vida Long who attended Media releases that gets results - one day seminar

It’s going to be a busy day but I’ll be heading over to Cockatoo Island in Sydney to the set of the new Hugh Jackman motion picture, Wolverine. It’s based on his character in the popular X-Men series.
Now I don’t know about you, but I’m partial to the very handsome Hugh – so I hope he lives up to expectations. I’m actually not sure about what to expect because all I’ve been told is to “wear flat shoes and bring a very warm coat as it’s get very cold and the filming is expected to go late into the night.”
I wish I could promise you a photo but the set is cloaked in secrecy and we’ve been told that cameras are prohibited. I’m visiting on behalf of an overseas newspaper. I’ll report anything interesting in the next
newsletter (if I'm allowed to!).

Writing for young people
It’s
been big news in the children’s writing world since Melbourne novelist
Sonya Hartnett won the 2008 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for
Children's Literature. This is the biggest award in the world for
children’s literature and is worth five million Swedish kronor (which
is A$880,687). Yes, you read that correctly.Sonya will be heading over to Stockholm this month to receive the award. In fact, Sonya told The Sydney Morning Herald that she was preoccupied with those of rising interest rates and house renovations when she heard the good news. The author has been making a living out of writing since the release of Thursday’s Child in 2002, a book about the depression told through Harper, the book's 7 year old narrator.
Her latest book The Ghost's Child has been shortlisted for the 2008 Commonwealth Writers' Prize.
Would you like to be the next winning children's book author?
You need imagination and a story to tell and, of course, some guidance through our course to help you create characters and stories young readers will enjoy!
